Olaf Wieghorst
My Favorite Olaf Wieghorst Painting of the Week

 Cavalry Trooper 1880(Pushing On)

A cavalry soldier riding point pulls up his Bay mount to look back on his platoon riding up from a majestic valley below. The scene is framed on a grass covered ridge with a prominent rock formation on the left. The soldier is a corporal from the 1880s era cavalry. Distant mountains in the background and a dark clouded purple-blue sky complete the composition. Olaf painted many Calvary painting, this is a favorite of mine.

From a 1979 painting titled: " "Cavalry Trooper 1880"
Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches

Olaf Wieghorst painted around 1600 oil paintings, 3-5000 watercolors, and who knows how many drawing and sketches during his life time. I love them all. Each painting tells a story to me. I have hundreds of personal favorites and will be sharing a new one each week. If you have any comments on a painting or have a special favorite you would like me to post, please email me.
