Driftin'

A rider dressed in a blue jacket and leather chaps, leading a pack-horse, pauses on a rise. The horse has taken the moment to graze on sparse vegetation. The figures fill the left side of the composition. The rider looks toward the background vista of rugged mountains and a dramatic cloud filled sky.

This painting was originally owned by Strohm Newell and later purchased by Howard Hawks, producer of the El Dorado movie.

Available as a limited edition print published by American Masters, South El Monte, CA., 1978.
